The Nikos Kazantzakis Museum, strengthening its presence in cultural events outside its walls, is pleased to participate in the art festival "Street Art 2024" organized by the Municipality of Heraklion, with the educational walk for adults "In the footsteps of Kazantzakis... The Great Castle".
We are waiting for you on Tuesday, June 18 and Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 6:30 p.m. to tour, taking a journey through time, the city where the universal writer was born and raised.
We will follow a route that includes parts of the city that Nikos Kazantzakis describes in his novels and we will connect them with selected passages from his work. Starting from "Mikros Agios Minas" we will get to know the monumental topography and architecture of Heraklion.
Observing the Metropolitan Church of Agios Minas and Agia Catherine we will identify the similarities and differences in the surviving structures discussing the past of the city that has been lost through the development of recent decades. We will walk on Platia Strata, today's Kalokairinou Avenue, and head to the street where the Kazantzakis house was located.
Using our senses we will discover the smells, tastes and sounds of the Great Castle to feel the pulse of the city of that time. Passing the Morosini Fountain and the New Gate, we will ascend to the Martinego Bastion, the highest point of the Walls of Heraklion, where we will visit the tomb of Nikos Kazantzakis and finish our walk enjoying the view of the city from above.
Duration of educational walk: 1.5 hours
Starting point: "Agios Minas"
End point of the walk: Bastion Martinego - Tomb of Kazantzakis
To participate in the walk, comfortable clothes, sports shoes, a hat and water are recommended.
