The 36th Development Conference of Mylopotamites was held with great success on Saturday 19/8/2023. It took place in the historic Monastery of the Transfiguration of Sotiros Halepas in the village of Kryoneri (historical name Assyrotoi), the birthplace of Margis Christodoulakis, mother of Nikos Kazantzakis.
The conference was organized by the Panhellenic Cultural Union of Mylopotamites in collaboration with the Region of Crete, the Municipality of Mylopotamos, and the Cultural Associations of Krioneri and Agridia. Many interesting announcements were presented by the invited speakers, discussions, interventions by members of the local community, and proposals that will contribute to the cultural and developmental evolution of the Mylopotamos region.
The Nikos Kazantzakis Museum gladly responded positively to the invitation of the organizers and participated in the panel of the 2nd Workshop "Local history and tradition. The example of the global Nikos Kazantzakis".
The Museum was represented by Mr. Vangelis Haritopoulos, Archaeologist-Restorer and Project Manager of the Nikos Kazantzakis Museum. He presented the paper entitled "In the footsteps of Nikos Kazantzakis in Mylopotamos: Reconstructing itineraries based on his texts" which is the result of an original research work carried out by Mr. Haritopoulos at the Kazantzakis Museum and will soon be available to the local community and the general public.
